Houthis Claim Missile, Drone Attack on Riyadh Airport

A fire has erupted near King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as Yemen's Houthi rebels claim to have attacked 'sensitive' sites in the city with missiles and drones.

The Houthis, who control much of Yemen and parts of its north, said they launched the operation in response to an attack in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. They also claimed to have targeted an Aramco facility in Yanbu, a key Saudi oil export hub.

Saudi Arabia had sent alerts on Saturday warning of potential danger around Riyadh, amid an escalation in Houthi attacks in the kingdom. Reuters video showed a large plume of black smoke rising from the fuel storage area at King Khalid International Airport, with flames visible behind what appeared to be fuel tanks.

The Houthis have been launching attacks against Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July, targeting Saudi cities, energy infrastructure, and shipping. The conflict has put global oil supplies at risk and threatened the main alternative Red Sea route for Gulf exports.
