Houthis Claim Responsibility for Attack on Saudi Oil Tanker
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility for an attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea. According to their statement, the strike was 'accurate and direct' and caused a fire aboard the vessel. The Houthis also stated that several other ships in the area fled as a result.
The incident occurred approximately 63 nautical miles west of the Saudi city of Yanbu. A British maritime agency reported earlier that a tanker had been struck by an 'unknown projectile,' causing a fire on the main deck.
All crew members are reportedly safe, and no environmental impact has been reported. The Houthis have been attacking Saudi ships in response to their declaration of a maritime blockade against the kingdom.
