USDA Undersecretary Luke Lindberg visited the Iowa State Fair on August 18 and acknowledged that Iowa farmers want a new trade agreement with Mexico and Canada, the largest buyers of US corn, pork, and ethanol. President Donald Trump wants to negotiate a 'fair and reciprocal' deal for American farmers.

Lindberg stated that Mexican and Canadian farmers currently have an advantage over their US counterparts. He emphasized the importance of achieving parity in trade deals with these countries.

The comments come as tensions rise between the US, Mexico, and Canada. Trump has threatened to impose a 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, but has since paused this plan for at least three days, citing progress towards a deal.
