Houthis Claim Responsibility for Ballistic Missile Strike on Saudi Oil Tanker

The Houthi group in Yemen has claimed responsibility for striking a Saudi oil tanker, Wafaa, with several ballistic missiles in the Red Sea. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, is part of the group's 'maritime blockade' strategy against Saudi Arabia.

According to Yahya Saree, the Houthi military spokesperson, the missiles hit the tanker 'accurately.' This marks the eighth time a Saudi oil tanker has been targeted since July 22, when the blockade began. In total, 29 Saudi oil tankers have either been prevented from passing through the Red Sea and Arabian Sea or forced to turn back.

Saree stated that Saudi Arabia had redirected its oil tankers to the northern Red Sea after the Houthi group imposed a 'blockade' from the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The group has vowed to continue and intensify attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the northern Red Sea, aiming to block maritime access routes and prevent their passage.
