Houthis Fire Ballistic Missile at Riyadh, Saudi Air Defenses Intercept
The Houthi movement in Yemen fired a ballistic missile at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday morning. According to the Saudi-led coalition, the missile was successfully intercepted and destroyed by Saudi air defenses.
A fire broke out near the King Khalid International Airport, reportedly at an Aramco fuel depot, but it was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
The incident is part of a larger conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, which has escalated in recent weeks. The Houthis have been carrying out retaliatory strikes against Saudi targets, including oil facilities and civilian infrastructure.
Anna Jacobs from the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington said that both sides are 'locked in an escalation trap' and that negotiations may be necessary to end the conflict.
