Houthis Fire Missiles at Saudi Arabia Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict
The conflict in the Middle East escalated further as Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels fired missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia, targeting facilities in the Red Sea cities of Yanbu and Jizan that belong to Aramco, the world's largest oil company.
The attack came in response to Saudi airstrikes on the strategic Red Sea city of Hodeida, which the Houthis say was aimed at crippling their ability to export goods through the port. The Yemeni rebels have threatened to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to Saudi-linked shipping, a vital chokepoint for global trade.
The U.S. and Iran are also vying for control of the Strait of Hormuz, a key location in the conflict that has seen rising tensions between the two countries. The Houthi rebels have been backed by Iran, which has been accused of supporting their military efforts.
