Houthis Fire Missiles at Saudi Oil Tanker Amid Red Sea Blockade

The Iran-aligned Houthi group in Yemen has claimed responsibility for firing ballistic missiles at a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea, as part of their newly declared maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis' military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, said the vessel had breached the blockade and ignored warning calls before being forced to change course.

Separately, the UKMTO agency reported that the master of a tanker heard an explosion while transiting the southern Red Sea on July 28, but the crew and vessel were safe with no environmental damage reported.

The Houthis imposed their naval blockade in response to what they described as a Saudi siege on Yemen, an allegation Riyadh has denied.
