Houthis Launch Drone, Missile Attack on Aramco as Conflict Escalates

The Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen has claimed responsibility for a drone and missile attack on Saudi oil giant Aramco. The attack was part of a 'broad operation' according to a spokesperson for the group.

The conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia has been ongoing since 2014, with the Houthis backing Iran in its war against the US and Israel. The Yemeni militant group has also targeted Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen, particularly over control of the Bab al-Mandab Strait on the Red Sea.

The latest attack comes as tensions between the two sides have escalated following the collapse of a 2022 ceasefire. The Houthis had previously struck Najran Airport in Saudi Arabia with a drone earlier this year, targeting a 'sensitive target belonging to the Saudi enemy' according to Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree.
