Houthis Launch Iraq-Based Strikes on Saudi Arabia's Oil Facilities
The Iran-aligned Houthis have launched attacks on Saudi Arabia from Iraqi territory in coordination with Iranian-backed Iraqi militia groups, according to an exclusive report by Reuters.
The strikes targeted oil facilities in Saudi Arabia's eastern province, which is the kingdom's main crude hub. The operations were allegedly coordinated under the supervision of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Saudi Arabia has not taken the attacks lightly, responding with joint airstrikes on Iraqi sites with the United States on Wednesday. An explosion was also reported in Sanaa, Yemen, but details on the cause and any casualties were not immediately available.
Farea al-Muslimi, a research fellow at Chatham House, said that there is now direct training and coordination between members of the Axis of Resistance themselves, not just with Iran. This indicates a deepening of ties among the network's members despite years of US and Israeli strikes on the group.
