Houthis Strike at Saudi Oil Infrastructure Amid Escalating Conflict
The Houthis have targeted Saudi Arabia's crude oil infrastructure in response to what they claim are drone incursions into Yemeni airspace. The group's military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, said on X that this action was taken to protect their country's sovereignty.
According to Saree, the Houthis have attacked a number of 'sensitive' crude oil supplies and transport sites linking eastern Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea city of Yanbu. This move comes after the Houthis declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia last week, targeting the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and attacking Saudi oil tankers.
The Saudi foreign ministry has condemned these attacks, stating that they reserve the right to respond to the source of 'the aggression' and deter those responsible. The ministry also noted that Saudi forces had attacked Yemen's Houthi-held city of Hodeidah on Friday in a recent escalation of their conflict with the Houthis.
