Houthis Strike Oil Facility Near Riyadh Amid Fierce Fighting in Taiz
The Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for an attack on an oil facility near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The incident occurred on Saturday and was witnessed by an AFP journalist who saw flames and smoke rising from the Aramco facility. The Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of striking their capital, Sanaa, dozens of times.
The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, stated that the group had targeted an oil facility in Riyadh with ballistic missiles and drones, sparking fires at the site. Firefighters were seen attempting to extinguish a blaze at Aramco's Riyadh refinery, located south of the capital.
Meanwhile, Yemen's government forces have taken control of the Samaa fort after heavy clashes with Houthi rebels southeast of Taiz city. The battle for Taiz has centered on several fronts, including highlands overlooking coastal areas recently seized by the Houthis.
