Houthis Strike Oil Facility near Riyadh as Conflict Escalates
The conflict in Yemen escalated on Saturday as Houthi rebels claimed to have attacked an oil facility near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The attack reportedly sparked fires at the targeted site and saw flames and smoke rising from Aramco's refinery south of the capital.
According to the Houthis' military spokesman, Yahya Saree, the group had targeted an oil facility in Riyadh with ballistic missiles and drones. The attack is the latest in a series of retaliatory strikes by the Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia, following the kingdom's bombing of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
The conflict has seen renewed fighting between the Houthis and the internationally recognized government since July 2026. The Houthis have seized control of coastal regions along the Bab al-Mandab strait, including the city of Taiz, where dozens of combatants were reported killed on Friday.
Saudi authorities have reported a Houthi projectile damaging a school in the city of Najran near the Yemen border. Riyadh has requested help from the United States, which so far has rebuffed the call.
