Houthis Strike Saudi Oil Tankers as US Airstrikes Continue Against Iran
The Houthis claimed to have attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, causing fires and escalating tensions between the US, Iran, and Yemen's Houthi rebels. The attacks come as the US launches its 13th consecutive night of airstrikes against Iran.
US President Donald Trump warned that the US would hold Iran responsible for future Houthi attacks, stating 'major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis, themselves.'
The strikes by the Houthis targeted the Encelia and Layla oil tankers in the Red Sea, with the UK Maritime Trade Operations Center reporting an unknown projectile was fired at a tanker 130 kilometers southwest of Al Shuqaiq, Saudi Arabia.
Oil prices rose above $100 per barrel for the first time since May after Yemen's Houthi rebels targeted Saudi ships in the Red Sea, threatening to cut another route for oil exports already under crippling constraints due to the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
