Hyperliquid Perpetual Futures Data Lands on Bloomberg Terminal
Hyperliquid, a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol specializing in perpetual futures, has made a significant leap into institutional visibility with its data now streaming on the Bloomberg Terminal. Accessible via the ticker WSL HYPE
On October 3, 2026, Hyperliquid distributed $14.6 million in USDC via its AQAv2 mechanism, with 90% of this yield going to the Hyperliquid Assistance Fund. This fund, holding about 45 million HYPE tokens acquired for approximately $1.1 billion, is responsible for executing buybacks and burns to manage token supply. The protocol’s aggressive capital return model, combined with USDC yield, gives it an annual buyback capacity exceeding $900 million.
The protocol’s technical infrastructure includes a Layer-1 blockchain using HyperBFT consensus, boasting a 0.07-second block time and a capacity of over 100,000 orders per second. Despite these capabilities and a total value locked of $6.2 billion, Hyperliquid’s market share in on-chain perpetual futures has declined from 70% to between 30% and 35%, facing competition from rivals like Aster, EdgeX, and Lighter.
Regulatory challenges loom large, as Hyperliquid filed a petition with the CFTC on August 26, 2026, seeking approval for regulated U.S. energy perpetual contracts. This has drawn opposition from industry incumbents like CME Group and ICE, who argue that the decentralized structure could facilitate market manipulation and sanctions evasion. The protocol’s actual scale is also uncertain, with revenue estimates varying widely between $193 million and $880 million.
