Average gas prices in Idaho have surged to $4.49 per gallon, a seven-cent increase from last week and a 26-cent jump from a month ago, according to AAA of Idaho.

This marks a significant rise, with gas prices now standing at $1 more than they did this time last year. The national average has also increased, reaching $4.09 per gallon, up three cents from the previous week and 95 cents higher than a year ago.

AAA of Idaho attributes the price hikes to higher crude oil costs and ongoing international conflicts, such as the Middle East conflict and Russia's continued fighting with Ukraine.

'The Middle East conflict and continued fighting between Russia and Ukraine demonstrate how interconnected the global economy really is,' says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde.
