The International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned that the European Union (EU) faces heightened risks this winter due to low gas storage levels. As of the end of October, EU liquefied natural gas stores were only 75 percent full, marking the lowest inventory levels since 2013. The IEA cautioned that this could leave Europe vulnerable to supply disruptions or colder-than-expected temperatures during the 2026-27 heating season.
The agency highlighted that the region may need to rely more heavily on global gas supplies to meet peak seasonal demand. This increased dependence could exacerbate potential challenges if technical outages or other supply issues arise. The IEA's report underscores the need for careful monitoring and preparation to ensure energy security.
