The Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) has secured regulatory approval to launch a capacity booking platform for liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminals. The move aims to streamline access to terminal capacity, making the process more transparent and efficient.
According to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), the new platform will serve as a centralized hub for listing and booking unused regasification capacity at LNG terminals. This will allow market participants to easily identify and secure available capacity based on their needs.
The PNGRB highlighted that many terminals currently suffer from low capacity utilization. The platform is expected to help these terminals attract more LNG cargoes by enabling transparent discovery of lower regasification charges.
Currently, terminals rely on bilateral agreements for capacity booking. The IGX platform will offer an additional, voluntary option for booking capacity, providing more flexibility to users.
