Ilijan Power Plant Reconnects with Malampaya Gas After Four-Year Hiatus

The Ilijan power plant has resumed receiving natural gas from the Malampaya gas field after a four-year hiatus. The resumption of supply is the result of rehabilitation and restoration work on the Ilijan natural gas receiving facility, which started in June 2022.

The Tabangao-Ilijan Pipeline was also restored to support the return of Malampaya gas. This milestone marks more than just a resumption of fuel supply; it's about optimizing existing energy infrastructure and making the most of available resources.

Yari Miralao, president and CEO of LNGPH, emphasized that this is not just a fuel supply issue but also an opportunity to use critical energy infrastructure built decades ago. An interim natural gas supply arrangement has been signed between Prime Energy and SPPC for the provision of Malampaya gas over six months starting September 1, 2026.
