Vår Energi Acquires BlueNord in Merger Creating Europe's Largest Independent Oil and Gas Producer
Norwegian oil company Vår Energi ASA has agreed to acquire BlueNord ASA in a proposed merger that would create Europe's largest independent oil and gas producer. The deal would expand Vår Energi's operations beyond the Norwegian Continental Shelf for the first time, adding producing assets on the Danish Continental Shelf.
The transaction is structured as a statutory merger, with Vår Energi acquiring BlueNord ASA. If it closes, it marks a significant milestone in Vår Energi's growth journey, creating the largest independent producer of oil and gas in Europe, according to Nick Walker, Vår Energi's CEO.
The deal would add BlueNord's Danish assets to Vår Energi's existing North Sea portfolio, giving it a long-term production target of approximately 450,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The combined entity would hold roughly 2.4 billion boe in reserves and resources, with an estimated 15-year reserve life.
The acquisition also provides Vår Energi with access to European natural gas markets through the Nybro and Den Helder delivery points, a key entry node into the European gas network.
