The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is warning of a potentially disastrous outcome if the Middle East war continues into 2027. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated that ongoing conflict and rising oil prices threaten to derail global economic growth.

Georgieva noted that the current 'adverse scenario' forecast, which assumes a minor slowdown in growth to 2.5% and inflation of 5.4%, is already playing out due to the war's continuation and rising oil prices.

The IMF has predicted that if the war drags on into 2027 with oil prices hitting $125 per barrel, the global economy will face a 'much worse outcome,' including accelerating inflation and de-anchoring of long-term inflation expectations.
