Ukraine Reaches EU Wheat Export Quota, Reduces Western Trade
Ukraine has exhausted its duty-free wheat export quota to the EU, prompting European buyers to virtually halt purchases of Ukrainian grain at the western border. As a result, Ukrainian wheat exports are now subject to import duties, making it uncompetitive on the European market, according to White Brokers.
The exhaustion of the quota has led to a sharp drop in trading activity at Ukraine's western border. In response, main export flows of Ukrainian wheat are being redirected through the Danube ports and Romania's Constanta.
This shift is causing increased pressure on Ukraine's domestic market. Despite ample wheat supply, sales opportunities are constrained by logistics problems, putting downward pressure on domestic prices.
