Imperial Oil CEO Weighs Against Alberta Separatism

Imperial Oil CEO John Whelan has spoken out against Alberta separatism, urging the province to remain part of Canada.

Speaking at a Calgary conference on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Whelan stated that as a national company, Imperial Oil believes 'a united Canada is the strongest position we can take to face the challenges and opportunities ahead.'

He emphasized the importance of free movement of people, products, energy, and investment across the country, saying 'Canada and Alberta work best when people, products, energy and investment can move freely and reliably across the country.'
