India Accelerates Piped Natural Gas Expansion Amid Geopolitical Tensions
On April 2nd, 2026, Shri Srinivas Katikithala and Shri Neeraj Mittal chaired a joint review meeting to accelerate Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure expansion in 110 identified Geographic Areas.
The meeting focused on strengthening last-mile connectivity due to the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia.
Senior officials from various ministries, as well as representatives of City Gas Distribution entities operating in these areas, participated in the discussion.
The meeting directed States and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to expedite permissions for PNG connections, with a focus on prioritizing areas where pipeline infrastructure is already available.
Secetary Katikithala emphasized the need for a mission-mode approach, involving coordinated efforts across ministries, states, districts, and ULBs.
