India Assures Energy Security Amid West Asia Tensions
The Indian government has assured citizens of energy security, safety, and supply stability amid ongoing tensions in West Asia. In an inter-ministerial briefing at the National Media Centre, officials from various ministries outlined coordinated efforts to manage fuel availability, logistics, and citizen assistance.
The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, reiterating its diplomatic position that de-escalation and dialogue are crucial. The government has maintained sufficient coal stocks across the value chain, with 55.18 million tonnes available at thermal power plants as of April 6, sufficient for about 24 days.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that fuel supply remains stable, with refineries operating at high capacity and adequate petrol and diesel stocks maintained. To ensure equitable access, the government has implemented several measures, including the sale of over 8.9 lakh 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinders since March 23.
Authorities have intensified enforcement actions nationwide, conducting around 4,000 raids recently and seizing over 56,000 LPG cylinders so far. The government has urged citizens to avoid panic buying and adopt alternative energy sources such as piped natural gas (PNG) and electric cooking solutions.
