India Boosts Energy Imports Amid Global Crisis
India has taken steps to safeguard its energy needs during the global energy crisis. According to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, the country has maintained more than adequate fuel stocks and ensured 100% availability of household Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
Puri stated that India has expanded its import basket from 27 to 41 source countries to meet energy needs. This move is part of a series of measures taken by the government to ensure energy security, including prioritized LPG and PNG supplies for households and critical sectors.
The Union Minister added that the country has also increased LPG production on priority and implemented seamless coordination across government departments. Additionally, Excise duty reductions, support from Oil Marketing Companies, and continuous war-room monitoring have helped protect consumers from global price and supply volatility.
