India Boosts Support Prices for Rabi Crops Amid Push for Domestic Production
The Indian government has announced increased Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for six rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season. The biggest increases were given to oilseeds and lentils, while wheat saw a modest rise of Rs 25 per quintal.
Safflower received the largest absolute increase at Rs 675 per quintal, followed by rapeseed and mustard at Rs 413, and lentil at Rs 390. Barley was raised by Rs 136 per quintal, and gram by Rs 83.
The MSP for wheat will now be Rs 2,610 per quintal, up from Rs 2,585. The estimated margin over the weighted average cost of production is 106% for wheat, compared to 96% for rapeseed and mustard, and 92% for lentil.
