India Boosts Wheat Procurement Target Amid Adverse Weather

The Indian government has increased its wheat procurement target by 15% to 34.5 million tons under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) program for the current season.

This decision aims to support farmers whose crops were damaged by unseasonal rains, and also relaxes wheat quality requirements in major producing states such as Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The government has revised procurement targets for key states, with Madhya Pradesh expected to reach 10 million tons, Uttar Pradesh at 2.5 million tons, and Rajasthan at 2.35 million tons.

This move is intended both to support farmers and maintain substantial supplies for the domestic market. With opening wheat stocks of around 22 million tons in MY 2026/27, total government wheat availability could reach approximately 56.5 million tons.
