India Expands Agricultural Exports with Frozen Food and Makhana Shipments
India has expanded its agricultural and processed food exports by shipping frozen food products to Canada and makhana to Greece. The Haryana-based Aterna Foods Producer Company Limited sent a consignment of 24 tonnes of frozen goods, including green peas, mixed vegetables, sweet corn, and samosas, to Canada, valued at CAD 35,140.
The shipment was flagged off by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) as part of efforts to connect farmer groups with global markets. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev stated that the export creates new market opportunities for Indian farmers and food producers while strengthening linkages between FPOs, exporters, and global buyers.
India is the global leader in makhana production, with Bihar accounting for 80-85 per cent of the country's output. One tonne of makhana was exported to Greece from Bihar. The sector is supported by grassroots-level technical interventions from Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) and the ICAR-National Research Centre for Makhana.
