India Gives Households 90 Days to Ditch LPG for PNG
The Indian government has announced a 90-day window for households to switch from LPG gas cylinders to piped natural gas (PNG) connections. This measure aims to reduce dependence on LPG and promote PNG usage in areas where infrastructure is available.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, the supply of natural gas through pipelines will enable the release of LPG from areas with pipeline connectivity, reducing reliance on a single fuel source.
The government has prohibited PNG consumers from surrendering their domestic LPG connections and applying for new LPG connections. After 90 days, LPG supply will cease if households do not switch to PNG despite availability.
India faces an LPG crunch due to delayed shipments caused by the Middle East war. The Indian Oil-Adani Gas JV website highlights the benefits of choosing PNG over LPG, including continuous supply, safety, and metered usage.
