India Hikes MSPs for Six Rabi Crops by ₹675-₹413 Per Quintal
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for all six mandated Rabi crops for Marketing Season 2027-28. The highest absolute increase has been approved for safflower at ₹675 per quintal, followed by rapeseed and mustard at ₹413 per quintal and lentil (masur) at ₹390 per quintal.
The MSP for gram has been increased by ₹83 per quintal, barley by ₹136 per quintal, while wheat has received an increase of ₹25 per quintal. The government said the MSP increase is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing MSP at a level of at least 1.5 times the All-India weighted average cost of production.
The expected margin over the All-India weighted average cost of production ranges from 50% to 106% under the approved MSPs. Wheat has the highest margin at 106%, followed by rapeseed and mustard at 96%, lentil at 92%, gram at 59%, barley at 58% and safflower at 50%. The higher MSPs for pulses and oilseeds are also part of the government's efforts to encourage cultivation beyond cereals and promote crop diversification.
