India Hikes Wheat MSP by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per Quintal
The Indian government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per quintal for the 2027-28 rabi marketing year.
The MSP for pulses and oilseeds saw significantly larger hikes, with safflower experiencing a whopping increase of Rs 675. The government aims to promote crop diversification towards pulses and oilseeds while ensuring remunerative prices for farmers.
The MSP ensures at least a 50% margin over the cost of production for all six mandated rabi crops. For wheat, this translates to an expected margin of 106% over the All-India weighted average cost of production.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the government has been working in the interest of farmers, promoting the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds by offering higher MSPs for these crops.
