India Increases Wheat MSP by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per Quintal
The Union Cabinet of India has approved higher minimum support prices (MSPs) for wheat and five other rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing year. The MSP for wheat has been increased by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per quintal, according to I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The agriculture ministry's proposal on MSP for these crops was cleared at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This increase is more than double the production cost of wheat, which stands at Rs 1,264 per quintal.
The MSPs for other rabi crops have also been raised. Barley MSP has increased to Rs 2,286 per quintal from Rs 2,150 per quintal in 2026-27. The support price of gram has been increased by Rs 83 to Rs 5,958 per quintal.
Total payout to farmers is estimated to be Rs 90,962 crore for 324 lakh tonnes in the 2027-28 marketing year, said Vaishnaw.
