India Launches First LNG-Diesel Dual-Fuel Train on Western Railway Route

India's Western Railway is launching its first LNG-diesel dual-fuel DEMU train on the Sabarmati-Mahesana route in Gujarat. The eight-coach non-AC train features two converted 1,400 HP power cars that can operate using either liquefied natural gas or diesel.

The dual-fuel system allows for up to a 40% reduction in diesel consumption, replacing it with cleaner LNG when available. If LNG is not available, the engine can switch to diesel, ensuring uninterrupted operations.

Field trials have already been completed on over 2,000 km of routes, demonstrating the reliability and performance of the technology.
