India Launches National PNG Drive 3.0 to Boost Piped Natural Gas Adoption
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has launched National PNG Drive 3.0, aiming to accelerate adoption of piped natural gas (PNG) in India's energy mix.
The drive is being organized from October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, with the goal of strengthening India's vision to increase the share of natural gas in the primary energy mix from around 6 per cent today.
The focus will be on activating dormant connections, maximising existing city gas distribution (CGD) networks, expanding PNG in semi-urban and rural areas, and connecting new consumers.
The Minister stated that there is potential for another 1.30 crore connections with 6,87,966 inch-km of pipeline already laid.
