India Lifts Export Curbs on Wheat Flour Amid Rising Foodgrain Output

The Indian government has relaxed export restrictions on wheat flour and other related products. The changes come after a notification was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) amending the export policy for several wheat products.

Exports of wheat or meslin flour (atta), maida, semolina (rava), wholemeal atta, and resultant atta are now permitted without restrictions. This change marks a shift from the prohibited category to the free category.

The Centre had initially imposed export curbs on wheat and wheat products in 2022 due to rising prices and domestic food security concerns. However, with improved domestic stock availability and a rise in India's overall foodgrain output, the government has now lifted these restrictions.

Rice production increased by 3.84 million tonnes, while wheat production rose by 2.712 million tonnes compared to the previous year. The total foodgrain production reached an all-time high of 376.563 million tonnes in 2025-26.
