India Lifts Wheat Export Ban Amid Record Harvests
India has lifted its long-standing ban on wheat and processed products exports, according to Bloomberg. The decision was made possible by good harvests in recent years, with a record new wheat harvest reaching 120.6 million tons.
The ban on wheat exports was put in place in 2022 due to soaring global prices and heatwaves that threatened the country's food security. However, as domestic supply increased, the restrictions were eased in February 2026, allowing for small-scale exports to resume.
With the lifting of the export ban, India is set to increase wheat supplies to countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, particularly at a time when Black Sea region exports are severely limited due to ongoing attacks on ports and merchant ships.
