India Lifts Wheat Flour Export Ban After Four-Year Halt

The Indian government has lifted its ban on wheat flour exports after four years. The decision comes into effect immediately, and the export policy for wheat flour and related products has been amended to allow for their overseas shipment.

The banned products include maida, semolina, wholewheat atta, and resultant atta. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has released a notification stating that it has changed the status of these products from 'prohibited' to 'free'.

This move follows the government's decision on July 12, 2022, to halt wheat exports due to rising local prices and increased global demand. The export ban was partially lifted earlier this year with a cap of 5 million tonnes per annum.
