India Mandates Aadhaar Authentication for LPG Refills from October 1
The Indian government has announced that biometric Aadhaar authentication will be mandatory for domestic LPG refills from October 1, 2026. This means that customers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book subsidised gas cylinders at the retail selling price.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that this measure aims to prevent the diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use, and eliminate duplicate connections.
According to government data, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG customers had completed their biometric Aadhaar authentication by September 19, 2026.
Customers who have not yet completed this process can do so when the LPG delivery person arrives at their home, or by visiting a gas agency office or showroom and completing the e-KYC process within minutes.
