India Raises MSP for Six Rabi Crops by Up to Rs 675 per Quintal
The Indian government has announced an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for six rabi crops, including wheat, barley, gram, lentil, rapeseed and mustard, and safflower. The decision was made by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to give farmers a fair price for their crops.
The MSP for wheat has been raised by Rs 25 to Rs 2,610 per quintal, while lentil has seen a hike of Rs 390 to Rs 7,390. Rapeseed and mustard have also seen an increase of Rs 413 to Rs 6,613. Safflower saw the highest rise in rupee terms, increasing by Rs 675 to Rs 7,215.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision at a briefing, stating that the aim is to give farmers a fair price and encourage them to grow a wider mix of crops. The MSP is the minimum price at which government agencies buy a crop from farmers, working as a floor price.
