India Repatriates 2,447 Seafarers Amid West Asia Tensions
The Indian government has successfully repatriated over 2,447 seafarers from the Gulf region amidst rising tensions in West Asia. This number includes 30 seafarers who were safely returned within the last 24 hours.
The government assures that all Indian-flagged vessels have been unaffected by the ongoing situation, with no incidents reported in the past day. Maritime operations remain stable, and port operations across India are proceeding normally.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has ensured that fuel supplies, including petrol, diesel, LPG, PNG, and CNG, remain uninterrupted. Over 50.5 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered on April 16, with no shortages reported. To prevent hoarding and black marketing, authorities have conducted over 2,900 raids and imposed penalties on 255 LPG distributors.
The government is also promoting the use of PNG by activating about 4.68 lakh connections since March 2026 and offering incentives to commercial users such as hotels and restaurants.
