India Sets Ambitious Cooking Gas Output Targets Amid Middle East Conflict
India has set ambitious production targets for its state-run and private oil refineries to boost domestic cooking gas output amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. According to a government order issued on August 13, the country aims to produce 63,810 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per day by leveraging existing infrastructure.
The order stipulates that companies must maintain adequate storage and transportation facilities for LPG, either directly or through railways and road tankers. The federal government will review and update the targets every January and July to reflect changes in production levels and additional output from existing refineries.
Before the conflict disrupted supplies, India relied heavily on imports from the Middle East, with around 90% of its cooking gas coming from the region. However, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in March led to a significant disruption in supplies, prompting the government to take action.
