India Sets Minimum Support Prices for Rabi Crops Amid ₹90k Cr Payout
The Indian government has approved the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for six Rabi crops for the 2027-28 season, which will involve a payout of ₹90,962 crore to farmers across 324 metric tonnes of procurement.
The MSPs have been set at ₹2,610 per quintal for wheat and ₹2,286 per quintal for barley. Among pulses and oilseeds, gram has been fixed at ₹5,958 per quintal, lentil (masoor) at ₹7,390 per quintal, rapeseed and mustard at ₹6,613 per quintal, and safflower will fetch ₹7,215 per quintal.
The revised support prices guarantee a margin of at least 50% over the projected all-India weighted average cost of production across all six crops. The expected return is highest for wheat at 106%, followed by rapeseed and mustard at 96%, lentil at 92%, gram at 59%, barley at 58%, and safflower at 50%.
