India Sets Targets for Cooking Gas Production Amid Middle East Conflict
India has set targets for state-run and private refineries to boost cooking gas production in response to the Middle East conflict. The conflict disrupted supply routes, which previously fulfilled 90% of India's liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) import needs.
The federal government has mandated a maximum daily LPG production target of 63,810 metric tons for refineries. This is aimed at ensuring domestic supplies and building buffers after the US-Israeli war against Iran disrupted LPG imports from March.
Reliance Industries Ltd's domestic-market-focused refinery has been tasked to produce 18,000 tons a day of LPG. State-run explorers Oil and Natural Gas Corp and Oil India Ltd, and gas utility Gail India Ltd are expected to contribute 10% of the nationwide target.
