India Signs Oil and Gas Cooperation Deals with Mauritius
Indian Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri recently visited Mauritius from August 20-21, 2026. During his visit, he met with Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam to discuss cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
The two countries signed a Government-to-Government Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the oil and gas sector, along with a long-term Sales and Purchase agreement between Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and the State Trading Corporation (STC) of Mauritius. This agreement will see IOCL supply all of Mauritius' import requirements of Motor Spirit (MS), High Speed Diesel (HSD), and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).
The MoU institutionalizes the longstanding energy partnership between India and Mauritius, covering petroleum products supply, training and capacity building for Mauritian officials, and biofuels cooperation. The agreement is a five-year commitment that will provide Mauritius with security of supplies and shield it from price volatility.
