India Taps Rice Industry's Hidden Value
The Indian rice industry is exploring value-added products beyond raw grain exports in an effort to tap growing markets. The Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2026, set for October 23-25 in New Delhi, will examine the potential of rice-based noodles, edible oil, protein, specialized ingredients, and industrial materials.
The global market for rice-derived products is expanding rapidly. The global rice-noodle market is projected to rise from $6.4 billion in 2024 to $11 billion by 2030, while the rice-bran-oil market is forecast to increase from $4.8 billion in 2023 to $6.3 billion by 2030.
India could also have significant room to expand rice-bran-oil production, with a 2024 NITI Aayog report estimating potential production at 1.9 million tonnes, including about 850,000 tonnes of untapped potential.
