Indian Appliance Makers Hike Prices Amid Rising Input Costs
Appliance manufacturers in India are set to increase prices of air conditioners, LED TVs, washing machines, and other products from October 1. The price hike is attributed to rising costs of key inputs such as copper, aluminum, and steel, higher costs of crude oil derivatives and freight, as well as currency exchange volatility amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.
The latest decision marks the third price increase by the industry in 2026. Companies including Blue Star, Godrej Appliances, Haier, Daikin, and Super Plastronics have announced or confirmed price increases ranging from 4 to 10 per cent across different categories.
Blue Star Managing Director B Thiagarajan said prices of air conditioners and deep freezers had already increased by 5-8 per cent due to higher commodity costs. He added that the company had implemented three price increases this year, with costs rising by around 15 per cent compared to last year's festive season.
Festive demand remains a concern for manufacturers as the industry enters its key sales period. Industry reports estimate that the festive period accounts for around 30-40 per cent of annual sales for appliance manufacturers.
