Indian Core Sector Growth Slows to 4.8% in August Amid Coal and Oil Declines
India's core sector growth eased to 4.8% in August from July's revised 5%, according to provisional data from the Office of the Economic Adviser.
The Index of Core Industries (ICI) growth was led by cement and electricity, which rose 12.5% and 11.6%, respectively.
Iron ore production grew 5.5%, steel output increased 3.4%, and refinery products rose 2.6%, but coal, crude oil, natural gas, and fertiliser production all contracted.
Cement, electricity, and iron ore have been key drivers of overall core sector growth in recent months.
