Indian Equities Extend Losing Streak to Eight Weeks Amid Crude Oil, Bond Yield Pressures
The Indian equity markets had a tumultuous week, ending with their eighth consecutive weekly decline. The Nifty 50 index fell by 718.55 points (3.11%) to close at 22,421.95, while the Sensex dropped by 1,986.04 points (2.69%) to end at 71,909.70.
The decline was driven by a combination of factors, including Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) selling, high crude oil prices, and rising bond yields. The rupee also weakened during the week, contributing to the market's downward trend.
The RBI Monetary Policy Committee meeting from October 5-7 is expected to be a key event in the upcoming week. A Reuters poll suggests that most economists expect the RBI to raise the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50%.
