Indian Equities Open Lower Amid Geopolitical Tensions, Rising Oil Prices
The Indian equity market opened lower on Monday, August 31, due to renewed geopolitical tensions and rising crude oil prices.
The Sensex fell by 133.78 points or 0.17 per cent to open at 77,130.73, while the Nifty declined by 58.10 points or 0.24 per cent to 24,117.55.
Nifty Metal and IT sectors were among the top losers, with declines of 1.70 per cent and 1.32 per cent respectively.
Market experts attributed the weakness in equities to Fed chief Kevin Warsh's statement on inflation rates and potential rate hikes, as well as rising Brent crude prices above $90 a barrel.
