Indian Equities Surge Amid Mixed Global Cues and Falling Oil Prices
The Indian equity market experienced a cautious start on Monday as investors assessed mixed global cues and falling crude oil prices. The BSE Sensex climbed over 200 points to approach 77,750, while the NSE Nifty50 rose almost 50 points to touch 24,300. This upward trend comes despite geopolitical risks remaining in focus following Washington's plans for fresh economic sanctions on Iran.
The US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to outline the measures at a press conference on Monday. However, investors are likely to remain watchful as they await further details of these plans. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has dismissed Washington's threat of economic isolation, keeping geopolitical risks in focus.
Asian equities moved in different directions, with Japan's Nikkei 225 gaining 0.63 per cent, while South Korea's Kospi fell 2.28 per cent. Investors are particularly focused on upcoming results from Nvidia Corp and Marvell Technology, which could provide fresh cues for global technology stocks and broader market sentiment.
Crude oil prices declined sharply in early trading, with the September futures contract quoted at $90.84 per barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange, down 1.99 per cent. This decline comes ahead of Washington's announcement on economic sanctions against Iran.
